Julian Harris Newman, 76, of Athens passed away Saturday, Nov. 12, 2016 at North Alabama Speciality Hospital in Athens, Alabama .
Funeral service will be Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2016, at 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Athens with Joel Carwile, Joel Teal, Joe Ziegler, and Wason Carroll officiating .
Visitation will be Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2016, from 11 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. at First Baptist Church. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery.
Mr. Newman started his professional career in the accounting department of Reynolds Metals Company in Listerhill, Alabama. Prior to retirement he was Supervisory Contracting Officer in the Procurement and Production Directorate, U.S. Army Missile Command, Redstone Arsenal. Mr. Newman was an avid golfer and University of Alabama fan.
He was preceded in death by parents, Julian and Bela Speigner Newman; and sister, Patricia Newman Hall.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Dean Newman; and his daughter, Nancy Newman. He is also survived by nieces, Lisa Hall Gilbert, Diane Hall; and nephew Richard Newman Hall.
Pallbearers will be George Hardy, Richard Martin, Marvin Price, Carl Still, Jim Henderson, and Myron Hargrove.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry Batts, Lynwood Bailey, Hubert Crow, Herby Greenhaw, and Charlie Neese.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Clearview Cancer Institute, Huntsville, AL or to First Baptist Church, Athens, AL.
