Julian Franklin Hughes, 85, of Athens, passed away June 25th, 2023. Mr. Hughes was born on June 20th, 1938, to Melvin and Elizabeth (Dean) Hughes.
Mr. Hughes is survived by his wife Paulette Hughes; son Don Hughes (Wendy); daughters Penny Fox (Jimmy) and Anita McMeans (Brad), grandchildren Brittany Baugher (Jarrett), Wesley Hughes, Lindsey Hughes Lupo (Chris), Haleigh Hinds (David), and Kaleigh Roberson (Austin); great-grandchildren Adrianna Baugher, Bradleigh Roberson, and Max Hinds; brothers Jerry Hughes and Mahlon Hughes; several nieces and nephews; and brother-in-law Clarence Johnson.
Mr. Hughes is preceded in death by his parents Melvin and Elizabeth Hughes; sister Lura Dean Johnson; and sisters-in-law Winnie Hughes and Betty Hughes.
The funeral service will be Friday, June 30th, 2023, at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home, at 2:00 p.m., officiated by Kip McKee, Mitch McCormick, and Wesley Hughes. Visitation will be Thursday, June 29th, 2023, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m., at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Clifton Moss, Ricky Hughes, Steve Hughes, Garland Bailey, Brad Dean, and Wesley Hughes. Burial will be at Limestone Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Hughes retired from 3M. He loved rabbit hunting, church, and gardening. He was a member of Salem Springs Baptist Church.
