Julia Lawrence Schaefer, 58, died on September 16, 2022, at her home in Winchester, Tennessee following a ten-month battle with uterine cancer.
Born to Carrye and Bill Lawrence on September 26, 1963, she grew up in South Pittsburg, Tennessee. She graduated from Tennessee Tech University in 1985 with a BA in Journalism. She worked in Nashville as a technical writer in the Aerospace industry for several years.
Julie is survived by her husband of thirty-five years, Milton Schaefer; daughter, Molly Still (McLain); son, Pledger Schaefer; grandson, Liam Still; granddaughter, Rainey Still; brother, Billy Lawrence (Christy); mother, Carrye Lawrence; brother-in-law, Randy Durham; and nieces, Jodi Lawrence, and Sarah Durham. She was preceded in death by her father, Bill Lawrence; and sister, Mary Durham.
Julie married Milton Schaefer in All Saints Chapel in Sewanee, Tennessee on April 25, 1987. Julie served as the chairman of the Franklin County Library board for several years. She also served as President of the Parents Council and on the Board of Trustees of Saint Andrew’s-Sewanee School. She was one of the founders of the High on the Hog celebration in Winchester.
Her culinary magic was enjoyed by all those lucky to have know her. She had more kitchen gadgets, and knew how to use them, than many restaurant chefs. She cherished memories of time spent with her family on Tims Ford Lake, and of family trips to fun places, both domestic and foreign. She and Milton enjoyed retirement by living on a boat and doing the Great Loop adventure, traveling about 7,000 miles on the waters of the eastern half of the United States.
A Joyous Celebration of a Life Well-Lived is planned for Sunday, October 2, 2022, from 3-7pm at The Honeysuckle Pavilion at Twin Creeks, 91 Slip-A-Way, Winchester, Tennessee.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to local charities. CASA or Blue Monarch were two of Julie’s favorites.
