Judy Kay Smith, born October 14, 1948, passed away Monday, April 13, 2026. “Mama Judy,” as she was known by colleagues, friends, and neighboring children in need of a kind ear, was a loving and dedicated mother. Family memories of her incredible fried chicken for all will be dearly missed. She worked as a bookkeeper for Home Depot for 27 years, where her kindness and skill set was noticed and appreciated by many. Judy loved country music, most of all George Strait, and was an accomplished square and line dancer. She experienced years of joy and fellowship performing with her dancing friends. Closer to home, Judy was a skilled seamstress, artfully creating her daughter Tammy’s wedding dress. She lived her life with love, generosity of spirit, and creativity, and has left us a wonderful legacy.
Judy is survived by her sister, Charlotte Ratliff; her children, Tamera Bamburg (James), Thomas Smith (Stephanie), Robyn Bryant (Andre), Ryan Smith, and Ryrie Smith Robert; her grandchildren, Rachel Davis, Kaly Bamburg, Myra DeFrank, Courtney High, Chelsea Smith, Matthew & Nathaniel Smith, Jakel Legette, Ismael Smith, Sonya & Selena Owen, Brandon Bryant, Nicholi Gooden, Chris Smith, Alex Smith, and Joseph Smith, and her numerous great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Katherine Powers, and her sister, Jean Turner.
