F.02.14.24 Judy Faye Henson.jpgJudy Faye Henson, 71 of Rock Creek, AL passed on Saturday, February 10, 2024.

Born June 9, 1952 in Somerville, TN, Judy (Thorne) Henson resided in Colbert County for most of her life.

The world lost a good one on Saturday. Judy cared big and loved big. She did deeds big and small and without seeking payment or credit. She was a beautiful person inside and out. During her time, she affected many of us very directly and positively. She was a mother, a wife, a grandmother, a daughter, a sister, and a friend to so many.

Judy grew up in southern Colbert County with five brothers and a sister. One of her favorite pastimes in those early years was barrel racing horses on the family farm. She attended Cherokee High School where she was known to be friendly and open to classmates and teachers. One classmate from a lower grade said that Judy often took the time to speak to the younger kids and was not cruel or mean while others sometimes could be. That was Judy, compassionate and kind to many others throughout her life.

Throughout her life, Judy loved to paint and create anything and everything, usually giving those items to others. She must have made hundreds or perhaps thousands of crafts as gifts for friends or family members throughout the years. She loved her grandchildren. She traveled often to visit and spend time with them when she had the chance. She loved to cook for others. She loved to care for others. She loved to love.

Judy attended Tuscumbia Church of Christ where she would often be seen helping during meetings and functions. Preacher Jeff Abrams will lead a visitation from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, February 15, 2024 with a memorial service to follow at Colbert County Memorial Chapel. Following the memorial Judy will be laid to rest at Colbert Memorial Gardens.

Judy is survived by her husband of 32 years, Thomas “Tommy” Henson of Rock Creek. They wed on New Year’s Eve 1991 and were together for the rest of her too-short life. She is also survived by seven children. The children include Jennifer Hale of Memphis, TN; Shelaine Gillette of Chattanooga, TN; Jeff Mitchell of Chattanooga, TN; Tim Mitchell of Las Vegas, NV; JoAnne Osborn of Muscle Shoals, AL; Carol Vess of Tuscumbia, AL; and Melissa Henson of Muscle Shoals, AL. Judy is also survived by 11 grandchildren/step grandchildren: Jarrett Mitchell, Dylan Mitchell, Kaila Mitchell, Kade Cooper, Alli Osborn, Victoria Dreyer, Jason Franks, Jacob Franks, Thomas Mitchell, James Gillette, and Randy Gillette. Lastly, Judy is survived by siblings: Stanley Thorne of Huntsville, AL; Linda Winchester of Columbia, TN; James “Jim” Thorne of Springfield, MO; Phillip Thorne of Tuscumbia, AL; and Neal Thorne of Enville, TN. These and many other lives were directly touched by Judy throughout many years of love and attention.

Judy was preceded in death by her parents, James “Jim” Thorne and Willodean Thorne; son, Eddie Mitchell; and brother, David Thorne. `

We all miss her so dearly. This loss is a difficult loss. She is remembered by so many around her and will continue there in our hearts.
