Judy Ellen Slaton Gilbert, 77, of Athens, passed away Friday, May 12, 2023 surrounded by her loving family. She graduated from Lauderdale County High School, co-owned Odyssey Hair Salon with her sisters as well as the original owner of Village Pizza. She spent her later years as a wellness consultant for Juice Plus.
Judy loved family trips to the beach and spending time with her family. She enjoyed life and watching others live life to the fullest.
A visitation will be Monday, May 15th from 12 – 1 p.m. at Midway Baptist Church with the funeral service following with Gerome Hilliard officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery.
Mrs. Gilbert was preceded in death by her parents, James Atha & Pearl Newton Slaton; husband, Jerry Glenn Gilbert; sisters, Joyce Ann Cluff, Leta Sue Edgemon and Pat Marie Black; granddaughter, Mirella Hope Shields. She is survived by her daughter, Julie Lovell (Rusty) Shields; son, Marty Joe Lovell; grandchildren, Naarah Faith Shields (John) Stewart, Camden Scott Shields, and Colten River Shields; great-grandson, Ryder James Stewart and sister, Kay Slaton Hill.
