Obituary of Judith Marie Fortenberry Judith Maie (Hale) Fortenberry, age 89, of Jacksonville, AL passed away on Saturday, February 1, 2025. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, February 4. 2025 at Windcrest Farm Cemetery, 380 Windcrest Farm Road Jacksonville, AL 36265. Bro. William Crain and Dr. Daniel Harper will officiate. Collier-Butler Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Judy was born in Leesburg, Alabama to Joe Hugh and Mary Waldrop Hale. She attended Centre Elementary as well as Sand Rock Elementary and graduated from Cherokee County High School class of 1953. After completing one year of college, she married her high school sweetheart Hoyt Fortenberry. After the birth of their older daughter, Kay, they bought a farm in the Websters Chapel Community. While Hoyt worked at Goodyear, and Jean was born, Judy finished college. She began teaching typing and business education classes at Alexandria High School and later Jacksonville High School. In the early 70’s, Judy obtained a master’s degree in special education and began teaching the special needs class for Cherokee County. She retired in 1996 with thirty years of service.

During her retirement years she enjoyed attending Auburn football games, traveling, and maintaining the family farm. Judy was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Holy Comforter and in later years enjoyed attending St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Jacksonville.

Judy was preceded in death by her parents, Joe Hugh and Mary Waldrop Hale; brother, Joe Van Hale; sons-in-law, David Robertson and Wayne Alldredge; granddaughter, Anna Marie Griffith; great grandson, Hunter Schaffer; and the father of her children, Hoyt Fortenberry.

She is survived by her daughters, Kay Robertson and Jean Alldredge; granddaughters, Brttany (Gary) Miller and Katie Candit; great grandchildren, Zoey Abbey, Maryanna Miller, Shelby Miller, and Wayne Miller; nephew, Joe (Debbie) Pullen; and friends who became family, Pam White, Karan Gibbs, Terri Calhoun, Elaine Winslow, Bob and Chong Abbey, and Kayla and Jake Peeples, Jalyn and Chanlea.

Pallbearers will be Gary Miller, Zane Shaffer, Justin Hicks, Joe Pullen, Jesse Cochran, and Bob Abbey.

The family request no flowers.
