Juanita Woods Posie, age 92, fought the good fight of faith and finished the race on Saturday, Aug. 17, 2013. Born in Florence, Ala. to the late Ollie and Nettie Ingram Woods. She earned degrees from Stillman Institute, Alabama A & M University and received a Masters of Arts degree from Florence State University (UNA). Mrs. Juanita Woods Posie retired after a distinguished career in the Lauderdale County school system. She taught at Green Hill, West End and Cloverdale schools.
She was married to the late Reverend Obie Posie and supported him as he pastored Pisgah, Bailey Springs, St. Paul, Tuscumbia, Mt. Zion and Oak Grove AME churches.
Mrs. Posie is survived by a loving and devoted son, Reginald Phillips Sr.; one daughter-in-law, Patricia; four grandchildren, Reggie (Lynette), Rodrick, Sydney, and Jeremiah; three great-grandchildren, Rodrick Jr., Ramone and Hannah; one brother, Henry Woods; and one sister, Virgie Thompson.
Visitation will be today, 6-7:30 p.m. at Thompson and Sons Funeral Home, Florence. The funeral service will be Saturday, August 24, 11 a.m., at Greater St. Paul AME Church, Florence, with Pastor Ferne Sapp officiating. Mrs. Posie will lie in state one hour before the service. Interment will be at Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens, Florence.
