Funeral Services for Mrs. Juanita Scott, 81, of Lineville, Alabama will be Saturday, January 25, 2025 at Bethlehem UMC in Lineville beginning at 2:00 P.M. Burial will follow at Lineville Community Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday evening at Benefield Funeral Home in Lineville from 5:30 until 7:00 and one hour before the funeral at the church.

Juanita Scott was born on June 14, 1943, to George Stephens and Mae Rosie (Jefferson Willis, Sr.) Weaver-Newell. She was lovingly raised and guided by her grandmother, Mattie L. Weaver, who served as an instrumental parental figure in her life.

Juanita accepted Jesus Christ at a young age and became a member of Springhill Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir and later became a Matron. She was also a graduate of Clay County Training School.

On September 18, 1965, she married the love of her life, Bernard Nelson Scott. Together, they built a life of devotion, faith, and love. Juanita followed Bernard and joined Bethlehem United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir and made significant contributions which encouraged youth involvement and spiritual growth including founding the children’s choir, The Little Rays of Sunshine.

Juanita worked many years at Higgins Slacks and later in the Dietary Department at Clay County Hospital, dedicating herself to her work with care and commitment.

Her life was enriched by her many passions, including baking her highly sought-after Red Velvet cake and Banana Pudding, sewing, singing, spending time with her beloved family, and curating photo books to preserve treasured memories. Her dedication to capturing and honoring family history created a beautiful heritage for her loved ones to cherish for generations.

She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend, whose warmth, faith, and kindness touched everyone who knew her.

Juanita is survived by her children: Eric (Ruby) Scott of Ashland, Alabama, and Erika (Corey) Thomas of Wetumpka, Alabama; her sister: Elnora (Dave) Simmons of Lineville, Alabama; her brother-in-law: Billy Joe Smith of Ashland, Alabama; her sisters-in-law: Maeola Newell of Ashland, Alabama, Sherry (John Ivory) Hearn of Atlanta, Georgia, and Carolyn Holmes of Montgomery, Alabama; her grandchildren: Jarvis Stephens, Alex (Leslie) Scott, Audarius Scott, Tyler Scott, Gabrielle Thomas, Keaton Thomas and a host of great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind her special caregiver: Margo (Shannon) Hill, her special friend: Angie Stephens, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George Stephens and Mae Rosie Weaver-Newell; her siblings: Rosa Nell Smith, Gwenda Faye Lindsey, and Jefferson Willis Newell, Jr.; and her beloved husband, Bernard Nelson Scott, who passed away only two years ago.

Juanita’s life was one of devotion, love, and service. After 57 years of marriage, she and Bernard left behind a legacy of faith and family that will forever be remembered.
