Mrs. Joycie Mae Mercer Allen, age 76 of Middleton, departed this life Sunday morning, March 1, 2015 at her home.
The wife of Fred Dennis Allen, who survives, she was a retired psychiatric technician with Western Mental Health Institute, retiring in 2000 after almost 30 years of employment. She also had worked for Anchor Brush Company as a molding machine operator in Aurora, Illinois. She was born June 7, 1938, to the late James Elmer Mercer and Glennie May South Mercer and lived in this area since 1942. She enjoyed crocheting, especially making items for her family whom she dearly loved, and had a vivid interest in genealogy. Mrs. Allen was baptized in 1969 at Rogers Springs Church of Christ and was a member of New Hope Church of Christ.
In addition to her husband, whom she married on July 15, 1958, survivors include her twins, Joyce Denise Hanson of Rogers Springs and James Daniel Allen of Van Wert, Ohio; three brothers, James Wesley Mercer of Mississippi, Terrell Elmer Mercer of Ripley, MS and Larry Wayne Mercer of Chalybeate, MS; 7 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Jerry Clifford Mercer. The family requests memorial donations in Mrs. Allen’s name be made to New Hope Church of Christ for the Indian Children’s Home.
