Joyce Levins, 91, passed away on February 1, 2025, in Huntsville, AL. Born January 13, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Glenford and Dorothy Woodward. Joyce was born and raised in Flint, MI, where she graduated from Northern High School in 1953. She met her husband, Jim Levins, while he was attending General Motors Institute in Flint. They married in 1956 and moved to Massachusetts, where Jim continued his studies at Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge. After a move to Connecticut and the birth of their second child, Joyce and Jim relocated to Keene, NH, where they lived for 40 years. They spent almost 10 years in Naples, FL, and then settled in Huntsville, AL, in 2010 to be near family.
Joyce was an active member of the Methodist church during her years in Keene and Naples. She sang in the choir and taught children’s crafts. She also helped organize potluck suppers, holiday bazaars and other fund-raising efforts. Joyce remembered with fondness the many summers she and Jim spent at their lake cottage in South Haven, MI. They loved sharing it with their children, grandchildren and extended family. Joyce enjoyed arts and crafts, including scrapbooking, sewing and working with fabric. She was also interested in nature. She enjoyed bird watching and learning about plants and animals from around the world.
Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Jim, in 2021, her brother, Richard Hart, in 2017, and her sister, Suzanne Clement, in 2016. She is survived by her sister, Mary Cicalo of Davison, MI; daughters, Katherine Walton of Huntsville, AL, and Sally Colman (Ron) of Santa Barbara, CA; grandchildren, Brittany Baldwin (John) of Roslindale, MA, Ian Walton (Amanda) of Toney, AL, Paige Geer (Jesse) of Meridianville, AL, and Alex Colman of Cambridge, MA; nine great grandsons; and 11 nieces and nephews.
A service will be held at 2:00 on February 9 at Laughlin Service Funeral Home in Huntsville, AL.
