Joyce Kay George, age 80, of Columbia passed away peacefully into the arms of her lord and savior Jesus Christ on August 7, 2026, at Maury Regional Medical Center in Columbia, TNShe was born to Bennie Elmer and Ovie Cates Davis on March 11, 1946, in Lawrenceburg, TN. Joyce had a passion for teaching at Brown’s Elementary School in Columbia where she taught for 38 years. In her younger years, she enjoyed playing softball and basketball. Also, Joyce enjoyed traveling with her husband Clyde to watch and cheer on the Vanderbilt women’s basketball team.
Visitation with the family will be held at Carr and Erwin Funeral Home from 10-1pm on Saturday, August 15, 2026, Funeral services will follow at 1pm in the chapel of Carr and Erwin Funeral Home. Burial will be in Choates Creek Cemetery.
Joyce is preceded in death by her parents Bennie and Ovie Davis.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years Clyde George of Columbia, Tn. daughter Leslie (Matt) of Murfreesboro. Brother George Davis of Gallatin. Grandchildren Kayla (Ben) Jijon and Dawson Petty and fiancé Sarah Rapley Great grandchildren Lucas and Ashton Jijon. Niece Nikki (John) Abrams of Hendersonville and nephew Terry (Kelly) Davis of Gallatin. Three great nephews, and many other relatives and friends also survive
