Ms. Joyce Haralson, age 74 of Valley, passed away on Thursday, August 8, 2024 at her home. A memorial service will be planned for a later date.

Ms. Haralson was born in West Point, Georgia, but was a lifelong resident in the Valley area. She was a graduate of Valley High School and also attended Southern Union State Community College. She worked several jobs over her lifetime, lastly working as a Teacher’s Aide at Eastside Elementary School in Lafayette. Mrs. Joyce was also licensed to preach at the Valley First Church of the Nazarene. Ms. Haralson’s favorite pastime was anything to do with Women’s sports. She played semi-pro softball, where she traveled and played in several tournaments all over, and was also the quarterback for a semi-pro Woman’s football league. Mrs. Joyce also served as an umpire during softball games, and enjoyed watching Women’s sports on TV. Her favorite teams to watch were Alabama Football, and the South Dakota State Jack Rabbits football team. Mrs. Joyce loved helping people, being there for those in a time of need, and when someone would tell her that they needed prayer, she would stop what she was doing and pray for them. She was a volunteer for the Carey Baptist Thrift Store, and was a caring sister and aunt to many.
