Joseph Wheeler Owen, Sr. age 74 of Athens, passed away Tuesday, March 3, 2015 at Athens Limestone Hospital. Mr. Owen was born May 5, 1940 in Madison County, AL to John Dow Owen and Jessie Jones Owen.
Graveside services will be Friday, March 6, 2015 2:00 p.m., at Roselawn Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, from 12:00 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home.
Mr. Owen was a member of Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church. Sergeant First Class (retired) Joseph Owen served his nation with honor and distinction as a Combat Medic and Jumpmaster with the United States Army 20th Special Forces Group.
Survived by one daughter, Michelle Wilson and husband, Robbie of Athens; two sons, Joseph Owen, Jr. of Huntsville, AL and John Owen and wife, Danielle of Athens; four grandchildren, Tyler Owen, Madalyn Wilson, Ethan Owen and Natalie Owen; one sister, Laura Walsh of Rhode Island; one brother, Robert Owen of Madison, AL.
