Joseph W. Douglass, Sr. – Obituary

 Dr. Joseph W. Douglass, Sr. Ph.D., DATA, age 83 and a native of Lawrenceburg, TN, and a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church passed away peacefully in his home January 10, 2019.  He was preceded in death by his parents John Mitchell Douglass, Sr. and Mamie Kraus Douglass, one daughter, Melissa Victoria Douglass, and two sons, Joseph Cephas Douglass and Denney Fleming Douglass.  He is survived by his loving wife, Victoria Jane Douglass, also known as “Gee Gee”, one daughter, Susan Jane Douglass, and two sons, Joseph Walton Douglass, Jr. and John Mitchell Douglass.  Dr. Joseph W. Douglass, Sr., known to his grandchildren as “Pa Pa” is also, survived by his grandsons, Major, Robert Joseph Young, Larry Ray Wilburn, Justin Walton Douglass, Eric Michael Mashburn, Christian Douglass and his granddaughters, Erica Paige Tidwell, Falon Cozart, Samantha Douglass, and several great-grandchildren.

Joseph W. Douglass, Sr. was an active member of the Lawrenceburg Senior Citizen Center, a founding board member of the Lawrence County Substance Abuse Coalition, and member of the Lawrence County Health Counsel and Community Advisory Board.  He and his wife spent several years abroad where his work took him to the Azores, Portugal, and Aviano, Italy where he worked as a DOD School Counselor on the Aviano Air Force Base there in Italy.

He earned his PhD. D., at Nova College (International Campus) Calgary, Alberta, Canada and his BA, MA, M. Ed S. at the University of North Alabama and did his Graduate work at the Middle Tennessee State University, Greensboro, TN and Tennessee State University in Nashville, TN.  He was a U.S. Army (retired) Senior Military Instructor, Military Intelligence, Nuclear, Chemical, and Biological Warfare, and was also, very much affiliated with UFO’s and researched extraterrestrial sightings.

Visitation for Dr. Joseph W. Douglass, Sr. will be held at Neal Funeral Home Sunday, January 13, 2019 in the evening from 5:00 PM and 8:00 PM, with the rosary service at 7:00 PM.  Funeral Mass will be conducted on Monday, January 14, 2019 at 10:00 AM in the morning at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Joseph Mundakal officiating.  Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Lawrenceburg, TN with full military honors.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Also, The Douglass family would like to take the opportunity to thank all of you for being a part of Dr. Joseph W. Douglass’s life.  He thought a great deal and appreciated you all. Thank you.
