Joseph Onan Lindsey, Sr., age 84, of Russellville, passed away on Friday, May 02, 2025, at Helen Keller Hospital.
Joe proudly served his nation in the U.S. Air Force and was a retired machinist from Reynolds Aluminum and Wise Alloys. He was a faithful member of Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church. He and his family attended Mule Day in Columbia, TN each April for over 40 years, until his health kept him from going in 2023.
Joe was known by many titles such as devoted husband, father, uncle, Papaw, Joe Babe, and Papaw Joe, and even the “Best Liar” for Mule Day two years in a row. He loved being outside, was a lifelong farmer, and enjoyed all the perks of living in the country such as mules, wagons, sawmilling, and running bulldozers. He always enjoyed sitting on the porch swing and having all of his kids around him. To know JoeBabe was to love him, and he leaves many happy memories and good stories for his family to cherish.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 26 years, Barbara Lindsey; children, Joseph Onan Lindsey Jr. (Beverly), Darlene Lindsey (Amanda), Tammy Aycock Bishop (Tommy), John Aycock (Tammie Rae); grandchildren, Ashley Lindsey, Zack Lindsey (Amanda), Baili Summerville (Brett), Dillon Goodman, Sarah Parker (Drew), Lily Gomez (Noah), John David Aycock (Madison), Aria Todd, Preston Mertens, Braden Mertens, Meah Mertens; great-grandchildren, Kameron, Mya, Waylon, Aurora, Adelaide, Eleanor, Genevieve, Vera, Indiana, Rhett, Baby Valerie; great-great-grandchildren, Everleigh, Daxton; special niece, Susan Love; special nephew, Kenneth Lindsey (TJ); a host of other nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Melinda Lindsey; infant granddaughter, Baby Gina; parents, Zackey Odell Lindsey & Naomi Evelyn (Hovater) Lindsey; siblings, Marvin Odell Lindsey, Dallas Oscar Lindsey, James Gresham Lindsey, Mattie Rachel Lindsey Shook Harrison, Lola Irene Lindsey Nichols, Virginia Ruth Lindsey Head; and special nephew, Dwight Love.
The visitation will be 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. Friday, May 09, 2025, at Spry Memorial Chapel. The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 10, 2025, at Spry Memorial Chapel with Bro. Eddie Wix and Bro. Jeff Fleming officiating the service. The burial will be at Franklin Memory Gardens with military honors.
The pallbearers will be Zack Lindsey, Tommy Lindsey, Ken Lindsey, Mike Love, Chris Love, John David Aycock, Drew Parker, Paul Pounders, Lee Todd, Brett Summerville, and Gary McDowell. The honorary pallbearers will be Kenneth Lindsey, Sr., Rhett Parker, Waylon Lindsey, Indiana Summerville, Knox Todd, Rick Argo, Kurt Fink, Noah Gomez, Jerome Logan, and Aiden Stone.
