Joseph Lee Whitehead, 81, passed away Saturday, April 22, 2023 at the VA Nursing Home in Oxford, MS. He was born in Tishomingo County MS. to Joseph Edgar and Rosie Etta Ivy Whitehead. He worked in construction for more than 50 years and was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Dennis, MS. He was a veteran of the US National Guard and US Army serving from 1962-1966.
Funeral services will be Monday, April 24, 3:30 p.m. at Emmanuel Baptist Church, Dennis, MS., the body will lie-in-state from 1:30-3:30 at the church on Monday. Bro. Robert Wood and Bro. Caleb Waycaster will be officiating. Burial will be in Lindsey Cemetery. Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, MS will be in charge of arrangements.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years- Cleattis Whitehead, 2- Daughters- Melissa Donald (Ricky) and Renita Wells; Grandsons- McKinley Scott (Elizabeth) and Jay Wells, Sister- Inez Taylor (Junior); Brother- S.Q. Whitehead and a host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Ricky Donald, Shannon Young, Jeff Fowler, David Pruitt, Ray Cain and Jason Patterson.
Visitation will be Sunday, April 23, 5-9 p.m. at Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, MS.
