Joseph “Joe” Larry Wayne Akin of Hartselle, Alabama, passed from this life into Eternity on Sunday, November 21, 2021, at UAB Hospital. Joe was born to Army Master Sergeant James L. Akin and Grace E. Haney Akin on February 16, 1955, in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. Joe was a loving son, father, grandfather, and brother. He retired from Chrysler, and was a Harley Davidson motorcycle enthusiast. He really loved just about anything with an engine he could tinker with. He also loved his dog, Rocky, hunting, fishing, movies, and Braves baseball. Joe was a loving and tireless caregiver to his wife, Evelyn, who was in failing health for several years before her passing.

Joe was preceded in death by his father, James L. Akin; sister, Marina Akin Turberville; and wife, Evelyn Helms Chenoweth Akin. He is survived by his son, Michael (Anna) Akin of Huntsville, AL; mother, Grace E. Akin of Huntsville, AL; brother, Jim (Kay) Akin of Lexington, AL; sisters, Deanna (Bill) Loden of Madison, AL and Holly (Wayne) Hardiman of Athens AL; stepsons who were like his own, Robert Chenoweth, Gary Chenoweth, Kenny (Whitney) Chenoweth, Mikey (Janella) Chenoweth; two grandchildren, Violet and Sunny Akin; and five step-grandchildren. He is also survived by a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and friends.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, November 24th, at 1 p.m. at Laughlin Service Funeral Home, 2320 Bob Wallace Ave., Huntsville, Alabama, with Keith Turberville and Wesley Stover officiating. Wear your favorite jeans because that’s what Joe would want!
