Joseph “J.D.” Mathews, age 77 of Dora, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday May 11, 2017 at his residence. He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran and a member of Bethel Baptist Church. Retired from Mary Lee #2 Mines and a member of the UMWA
Funeral service will be Saturday May 13, 2017 at 11:00 am in the New Horizon Memorial chapel. Buddy Sparkman will officiate. Burial will follow at McCormack Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Venona Mae “Nonnie” Mathews, parents, Cicero and Zadie Mathews, and three siblings.
He is survived by his children, Joseph Mathews II; Karen Sickafoose (Jamey); and Kristie Mathews; grandchildren, Brittany Mathews; Kara Mathews; Chandler Sickafoose; Fisher Sickafoose; sister, Faye Nichols (Mitch); in-laws, nephews, nieces, and many friends.
