Joseph Frank Gravlee Jr., M.D., age 64, a resident of Fairhope, passed away Sunday, Feb. 18, 2018.

Joe was born in Opelika, Alabama on Feb. 14, 1954. He was a graduate of The University of Alabama and Tufts Medical School in Boston, Massachussetts. He received his ophthalmology training at The Eye Foundation in Birmingham, Alabama and practiced ophthalmology in Fairhope and Baldwin County for 25 years. He was a member of St. James Episcopal Church, Rotary Club, Red Elephant Club, and various other civic and professional organizations.

He is survived by his loving wife, Glenda for 41 years; sons, Joseph Frank Gravlee III and Benjamin Glenn Gravlee (Jill); and daughter, Elizabeth Gravlee Ladd (John); father, Joseph Frank Gravlee Sr., DVM (Linda); brothers, Hubert Scott Gravlee, DVM (Amy) and Van Clark Gravlee (Mary); and several nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Carol Eleanor Scott Gravlee.

A memorial service was held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2018, at St. James Episcopal Church in Fairhope, Alabama with a reception following at the church.

The family would like to thank all of our friends, family, church family, patients, medical community, and Community Hospice for the love and care and embracement they have showered on us during the years in Fairhope.

A private interment will be held at a later date.
