Mr. Joseph "Donnie" DoddMr. Joseph “Donnie” Dodd, age 83, of Guntersville, Alabama, the Scant City community of Marshall County, passed away at Shepherd’s Cove Hospice in Albertville, AL. Donnie was born May 7, 1940 in Marshall County, son of Norwood Dodd, Jr. and Mary Harriett Martin Dodd. He was of the Baptist faith and a member of Sweet Home Baptist Church. Donnie retired from Pittsburg Plate Glass Company (PPG) where he worked as an electrician in the maintenance department. He and Mary Owens Dodd were happily married for over 30 years.
Donnie was a member of the Arab Masonic Lodge 663 and of the Cahaba Shrines of Huntsville. Leisure time was spent enjoying his family and sharing activities such as hunting pheasant and deer, fishing for bass, camping and traveling. A fishing pole in his hands and a bass on the hook was a thrill for him that never got old. Also, anyone who knew Donnie was aware of his passion for Auburn football.
Family members left behind to cherish memories of Donnie include: wife, Mary Owens Dodd; daughters, Deidra Dodd Martin (Keith) and Donna Dodd Flack (Chris); step-daughter, Susie Eads (Bobby), step-son, Paul Owen, III (Della); grandchildren, Kevin Cooley, Jacob Parton (Jessica), Olivia Parton, Zachary Martin, Colby Flack (Jennifer), Caleb Martin, Nathan Eads, Kelsey Weathers (Austin), Brandi Neely (Chris) and Tristin Owens; and 14 great grandchildren.
Family members preceding Donnie in death include his father, Norwood Dodd, Jr. and mother, Mary Harriett Martin Dodd.
Services for Donnie will be on Saturday, September 2, 2023 at Sweet Home Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. The funeral service will immediately follow at 3:00. Brother Andy Brown and Brother Bobby Eads will be officiating. Burial will be in the Sweet Home Baptist Church Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are: Kevin Cooley, Jacob Parton, Zachary Martin, Colby Flack, Caleb Martin and Tristin Owens.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
