Joseph Dean Payne – Obituary

Joseph Dean Payne, 59, lifelong Lee County resident, passed away after an extended illness Wednesday, August 30, 2017, at North Mississippi Medical Center. He was born August 9, 1958, to John Howard and Delma Lee Ellis Payne. Jody was a truck driver for Hodges Construction for 23 years. He was an avid fisherman and loved gardening, hot rods cooking and grilling out for family. He was a Christian and loved his children and grandchildren.

 

Survivors include his children, Jennifer Knox of Kossouth, Dawn Thomas of Mantachie, Vanessa Maldonado of Nettleton, Crystal Young of Plantersville, Joseph D. “Joey” Payne, Jr. of the Carolina Community and Dillon Young of Peppertown; sisters, Elizabeth Coleman of Tupelo; brothers, Johnny Payne of Mooreville, David Payne of Mooreville, Kenny Payne of Skyline and Pat Payne (Konnie) of Belden and 18 grandchildren.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Hattie “Lucy” Thrasher and Sherry Payne.

 

Visitation will be from 5 until 9 p.m. Friday, September 1, 2017, at W. E. Pegues, Tupelo.

 

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, September 2, 2017, at the Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Rev. Michael Mason officiating. Burial will be in Gilvo Cemetery.

 

Pallbearers will be Andy Hodges, Johnathan Baswell, David Payne, Jr., Brandon Gordon, Thomas Harris and James Fowler.

 

Honorary pallbearer will be Justin Reed.
