Joseph David Mote  It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Joseph David Mote after battling colon cancer for 4.5 years with incredible faith, strength, and determination. David was surrounded by his family when he took his last earthly breath and his first breath in Heaven as he entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. David was born on November 10, 1975, in Decatur, Alabama and sent to his eternal home in Heaven on April 2, 2025 in Hartselle, Alabama.

David, as he was affectionately known, was a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. His journey on this earth was one marked by love, compassion, and unwavering faith in God. His passing has left a void in the hearts of his family, friends, and many more whose lives were touched by him. We ask that you remember him not for the way his life ended, but for the way it was lived, and for the profound impact it had on the lives of those who had the pleasure of knowing him.

David is survived by his wife; Amanda, children; Addison, Breanna, Emrie and Josie, parents; Larry and Debra Mote, brother; Chris Mote (Holly), nieces; Sela, Elspeth, and Aliza, father-in-law and mother-in-law; Rick and Doreen Freeman, sister-in-law and brother-in-law; Wendy and Byron Hale, nephews; Aaron and James.

David had a love for sports, especially baseball. He had the privilege to play baseball at Meridian Community College in 1995-1996 and then went on to play for The University of Alabama in 1997-1998. He loved to coach his daughters’ teams and be an encouragement, teaching them life was more than just the sport. The Lord used his love for sports and placed him in full time ministry in 2016 with The Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He was able to use that platform in sharing Christ to coaches and athletes with his ultimate desire for others to have a personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. All throughout his journey with cancer he continued to share the love of Christ. His unwavering faith was inspiring to many others as he continued to give God the glory and wanted others to know it was never about him but always about the Lord and for His will to be done in his life.

Those who knew David will remember him for his quiet and gentle personality, his deep-rooted faith in Jesus, and his unwavering commitment to spreading love and kindness to everyone he encountered. He had a rare gift for making others smile and laugh, leaving a lasting impact on all who crossed his path.
