Jorge Gomez died Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2020 at North MS Medical Center in Tupelo. He was 70. Born July 31, 1949 in Mexico, Gomez was the son of Victor Gomez Cepeda and Adela Rodriguez de Gomez. He worked as a supervisor for J. West in the construction industry. He loved watching TV, news, going to church on Sunday, and spending time with his family and grandchildren. He especially enjoyed family gatherings and good food. He attended the House Family of God Church in Pontotoc.
He is survived by his wife, Hortencia Gomez, his son Jorge Gomez, Jr of Saltillo, his daughters Adelita Gomez of Shannon, and Jessica Valaquez (Paco Rubicel) of Tupelo; seven brothers and four sisters; five grandchildren, Dezmon Listenbee, Eric Velaquez, Iris Velaquez, Antonia Ibarra, and Jaylah Gomez; and 1 great-grandchild, Armani Listenbee.
A service celebrating his life will be held at 2 PM on Monday, February 3, 2020 at Holland Funeral Directors – Tupelo Chapel, who are honored to assist the family. Rosa Mesh will officiate. Visitation will be from Noon to service time Monday only at Holland. Pallbearers will be family and friends. Burial will follow in Shannon City Cemetery.
