Jonanna Owings Cole, 54, of Huntsville, Alabama, was born into eternal life on June 5, 2025. She was loved by many and will be missed by all. She was a passionate pet lover and animal advocate. She loved new experiences with travel. She was always the first person to call for anyone in need. She had the most infectious laugh, guaranteed to brighten everyone’s day. She was a longtime resident of the Five Points community and was beloved by her neighbors.

Jonanna was born September 5, 1970, to Dr. Jon Michael and Sally Owings in Greenville, South Carolina. The family moved to Florence, Alabama, where Jonanna went to St. Joseph Catholic School and Coffee High School. After graduating from high school in 1988, she went on to UNA for her undergraduate degree. She graduated from the University of Alabama School of Law in 1994.

Jonanna began her legal career as a solo practitioner in Athens, Alabama. She was staff attorney for the US District Court, Northern District of Alabama from 2001 to 2021. After twenty years, she left to take care of her mother, Sally, and did so until she passed July 4, 2024. She finished her career as an employee of the City of Huntsville.

Jonanna was preceded in death by her mother, Sally Marie Owings. Survivors include her father, Dr. Jon Michael Owings; sister, Marjorie Arnston (Scott); brother, John Owings; nephew and niece, Matthew and Corinne Arnston; aunt and uncle, Lynn and Patrick Owings; her beloved aunt, Toni Ketterman, who was like a mother to her in recent years; and several cousins.

Visitation will be at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Monday, June 9, 2025, at 1:00 p.m., followed by a funeral mass at 2:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of your choosing.
