Johnston Wytch McCutcheon

Funeral service for Johnston Wytch McCutcheon, 89 of Somerville will be Monday, November 7th, 2022 at 3:00 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Eric Brown officiating with burial in the Center Springs Cemetery with Peck Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be from 1:00pm until service time on Monday at the funeral home.

 

Mr. McCutcheon passed away Friday, November 4, 2022 at Summerford Nursing Home.  He was born in Morgan County on January 7, 1933 to John Cleveland McCutchen and Crucie Johnston McCutchen.  His mother died on the day of his birth and he was raised by his uncle and aunt, O.T. Sharp and Lillie Johnston Sharp.

 

Johnston graduated from Cotaco High School and went on to serve in the United States Army during the Korean War.  He attended API and was a proud member of the first graduating class of Auburn University in 1960 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. On April 9, 1960 he married Doris Ann Terrell.  His engineering degree led to a long career with several engineering companies always focusing on space exploration.  His greatest career accomplishment was managing a project on the space shuttle.  He was recognized for this at Cape Canaveral and later in Washington, D.C. where he received an award.  After retirement, he enjoyed gardening, his 5 grandchildren, and all things Auburn.

 

He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers;  Troy McCutchen, Gloyce McCutchen, Merrill McCutchen, Lionel McCutchen,  Huel Sharp, Tim Sharp, sisters; Alma Breeding, Bertha Sharp, Lottie McGee, Elizabeth Winton, and Monte Rea Breeding.obi

 

He is survived by his wife, Doris Ann Terrell McCutcheon;

 

Son’s, Donald McCutcheon and Dr. Michael McCutcheon (Robin)

 

Daughter, Melanie McCutcheon Warner (Brent)

 

Grandchildren include Grant Warner (Sara), Lillie Beth Warner, Annilyn Warner, Johnston Michael      McCutcheon, and Elizabeth McCutcheon Hurst (Riley).

 

He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and special friend and care giver, Saundra Thomas Clark.

 

Pallbearers will be Grant Warner, Johnston McCutcheon, Riley Hurst, Danny McGee, Cole Sharp, and Steve Edmonson.
