JohnnyJohnny Royce Bailey, Sr., 69 of Ardmore, Alabama died on Friday, September 27, 2013, at his home.
Born Tuesday, January 18, 1944 in Chattanooga, Tennessee, he was the son of the late Roy Lee Bailey and Bernice Mitchell Bailey. He graduated from Ardmore High School in 1962 and attended the University of North Alabama. In high school Johnny was a three-sport letterman and quarterbacked Ardmore High School to a state championship in 1961. Johnny went to the University of North Alabama on a football scholarship. He was inducted into the Limestone County Sports Hall of Fame on June 7, 2008. In his career, Johnny was involved with many business adventures. He was a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church. He enjoyed Golf, football, and his family.
Surviving are his wife: Gail Southerland Bailey of Ardmore, AL, sons, Johnny R. (Coni) Bailey, Jr. of Ardmore, AL and Barry W. Bailey of Birmingham, AL, daughters, Dana E. Bailey of Birmingham, AL and Stacey L. (Thomas) Miller of Harvest, AL, mother: Bernice Bailey of Fayetteville, TN, brother, Tommy L. (Carla) Bailey of Huntsville, AL, sisters, Carol Bailey (Jim) Cooper of Taft, TN and Donna Bailey (Toney) Malone of Huntsville, AL grandchildren: Jacob, Crystal, J.D., Christian, and Alyssa, two great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM on Monday, September 30, 2013 at Ardmore Chapel Funeral Home, Ardmore, Alabama with Dr. Ray Stonecypher and Jamie Cooper officiating. Burial will be in Gatlin Cemetery, Ardmore, AL.
Pallbearers will be Raymond “Frog” McLemore, Sonny Johnson, Jerry McCowan, Nolen Haney, Doug Clark, Tommie Bailey, Thomas Miller, and Christian Miller.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Sunday, September 29, 2013, at Ardmore Chapel Funeral Home, Ardmore, Alabama
