Johnny R. “Pop” Nappier

Funeral services for Johnny R. “Pop” Nappier, age 82, of Ashland, will be held on Thursday July 3, 2025 at 3:00 P.M. at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland with Rev Raymond Long and Rev. Wayne Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the Clay County Memory Gardens.

Mr. Nappier passed away Sunday, June 29, 2025 at his residence. He was a native and lifelong resident of Clay County. Johnny graduated from Clay County High School, then worked several years with Tri-County Telephone and as a lineman and truck driver for Alabama Power Company for over 30 years until he retired. He enjoyed coon hunting in his younger days, watching Clay County and later Clay Central Football, and Alabama Football. Johnny enjoyed cutting grass, weed eating, tending to his martin gourds and was always ready to help anyone that he could. With all the things liked to do, he got the most joy from spending time with and being “Pop” to his grandkids and great grandkids.

Johnny is survived by his wife; Shirley C. Nappier of Ashland, Son; Duane Nappier (Wendy) of Ashland, step-sons; Keith Petttis of Piedmont, and David Pettis (Cindy) of Lineville, plus five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; Joseph Cornelius Nappier and Lettie Missouri Birchfield Nappier, two sisters; JoAnne N. Cleveland and Jimmie Sue Short, and three brothers; William Hugh Nappier, Walter Robert “Bobby” Nappier and Michael Lee “Nub” Nappier.

Active pallbearers will be Michael Pettis, Colten Carr, Case Nappier, Joseph Byars, Bob Allen, and Kenny Packer.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy Allen, Don Riddle, Dale “Snuffy” Caldwell, and Willie Price.

The family will receive friends at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland on Thursday July 3, 2025 from 1:30 P.M. until service time at 3:00 P.M.
