Johnny Harold Benson was born on January 1, 1958 in Hardin County, Tennessee, the son of Ruby Hazel Ward Benson and the late Elton Demp Benson. He had previously worked for Savannah Homes on Airport Road and Tidwell Furniture Company in the Walnut Grove Community.
Johnny was born, raised, and lived in the Walnut Grove Community. He was known throughout the community for rising up early every morning and making his rounds. His “pit stop” was at Dale’s Store for a cup of coffee and to talk to all the locals. Next, he would make his loop through the community. Everyone who knew Johnny, knew the sound of his little red Dodge truck. Lastly, he would head back home where he lived and took care of his mother, Hazel.
Johnny wasn’t a member of a church, but he appreciated all the prayers and visits from everyone. He really enjoyed the church service that was held in his room. It was an inspiration to him and all that took part in that great worship service.
He departed this life on November 2, 2015 in Savannah, Tennessee at the age of 57 years, 10 months, 1 day.
He is survived by his mother, Ruby Hazel Ward Benson of Savannah, TN; 1 brother, Billy C. Benson, and wife Brenda, of Savannah, TN; 1 sister, Patsy Benson Dennis, and husband Wendell, of Florence, Alabama; and 7 nieces and nephews.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Doris Jean Benson and Angela Kaye Benson, and grandparents, Henery and Alma Benson and Frank and Alie Seaton Ward.
