Johnny Depp was lucky to be hired to play the role of Captain Jack Sparrow in the film Pirates of the Caribbean, one of Disney’s best movies of the past ten years. Captain Jack Sparrow, was one of Johnny Depp’s best performances. However it may shock you to find out that Johnny Depp, although very quirky, wasn’t the first choice for the role!
Jim Carrey
In fact, Jim Carrey was originally cast as Captain Jack Sparrow, but because of scheduling conflicts with the movie Bruce Almighty, Carrey backed out and Depp was offered the role. Would Carrey have made a better Captain Jack Sparrow? Probably not. Jim Carrey is known for acting over the top ridiculous in his roles, so you can only imagine what the ‘Why is the rum gone’ scene might have looked like.
