Johnny Dempsey, 62, of Athens, AL; passed away Tuesday February 3, 2026, at Decatur Morgan hospital.He was born on May 17, 1963, in South Carolina to John Edward Dempsey and Mable Ivey Dempsey.
Johnny loved to play pool, box, lift weights, and run. He also had a love for gospel music and to collect roosters.
He is preceded in death by his father, one brother Ricky Dempsey, one son Johnny Thunder Dempsey, two nieces Tina Dempsey and LeShawna Powell, three nephews Wesley Dempsey, Jody Dempsey, and Ricky Lee Dempsey.
Johnny is survived by his mother, three brothers Jacky, Jody, and Bobby Dempsey, two sisters Melissa Harrell and husband Kevin, Sharon Malone and husband Jack.
Pallbearers will be Jacky Dempsey, John Wayne Farmer, Zacheri Powell, Brayden Sharp, Josh Malone, and Jeff Ivey.
Visitation will be Sunday February 8, 2026, from 11:00 AM -1:00 P.M.
Funeral will follow at 1:00 P.M. at McConnell Memorial Chapel with Kevin Harrell officiating.
Burial will be in Wesley’s Chapel Cemetery.
