Notice for Johnnie Lee Wray

Johnnie Lee Wray, 93, passed away Thursday, April 30, 2026, at Countrywood Manor in Mantachie where she had resided the past two years. She was born August 8, 1932, to Denver Gann and Carrie Lee Sheffield. She owned and operated Johnnie’s Beauty Shop for several years where she made many friends from her faithful customers. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Mantachie. Ms. Johnnie was an excellent seamstress and cook who enjoyed fishing and gardening, both flowers and vegetables. She loved her little dogs and was an avid NASCAR fan, particularly fond of Kyle Bush.

Services will be at 4 p.m. Sunday, May 3, at the First Baptist Church in Mantachie with her grandson, the Rev. Dr. Eddie Wren, officiating. Burial will be in the Walton Cemetery.

 

She is survived by her daughter, Judy Ferguson (Ted) of Mantachie; one son, Jackie Smith, of Baldwyn; 5 grandchildren, Chris Smith, Sandra Smith, Dewayne Smith, Mike Wren (Lisa), and Dr. Eddie Wren (Stacy); ten great-grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren; and a special daughter-in-law and friend, Martha Matthews.

 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Olyn Wray; her son, Gary Smith; a grandson, Scotty Wren; her parents, Denver Gann and Carrie Lee Sheffield; and the father of her children, Rex Smith.

 

Her great-grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

 

Visitation will be from 3 p.m. until service time Sunday at the First Baptist Church in Mantachie.

 

The family would like to express a word of appreciation to the caregivers and staff at Countrywood Manor for the personal, professional care provided to Ms. Johnnie and her family.
