Johnnie Lee Smith, 87, of Florence, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2014, at his residence after an extended illness. He was a member of Stewartsville Church of Christ and a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
A graveside service will be held today at 4 p.m. in Greenview Memorial Park. Officiating will be John Richards and Larry Watkins. Military funeral honors will be accorded at graveside.
Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Smith.
He is survived by his son, Wayne Gean (Barbara), of Waterloo; daughter, Melinda Danco, of Texas; grandchildren, Wendy Whitten (Barry) and Kyle Gean (Ashley), all of Florence, Kirby Gean, of Waterloo, Amanda Lee Porter (Mark), of Austin, Texas, and Aaron John Danco, of Richmond, Texas; ten great-grandchildren; and sister, Myrtle Smith, of Texas.
Active pallbearers will be Kyle Gean, Kirby Gean, Barry Whitten, Kaleb Whitten, David Young, and Danny Vines.
Honorary pallbearers will be Thomas Balentine, Steve Cauthen, Gene Carbine, and Tommy Balentine.
