Minister Johnnie Lee CookMinister Johnnie Lee Cook was born on Wednesday, January 10, 1951 to the late Johnnie L. Wright and Mary F. Cook in Dallas County, Alabama. He confessed Christ at an early age and became a member of the Sixth Street Peace Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama. He later moved to Huntsville, Alabama and became a member of the New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church in Harvest, Alabama under the leadership of Pastor Ricky L. Sykes on December 01, 1991.  He accepted his calling into the ministry January 15, 1995 and was licensed on February 5, 1995 by the Sixth Street Peace Baptist Church and also licensed on August 13, 1995 by the New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church. He received ordination from the Sixth Street Peace Baptist Church by the late Pastor Hobdy Moorer, Jr. on April 29, 2001.

Johnnie attended Washington Elementary School in Birmingham, Alabama. He was a graduate from Ullman High School in 1968.  Several months later he enlisted in the Air Force (1969).  He graduated from Alabama A&M University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in May 1979.  Johnnie also received a Bachelor of Biblical Studies Degree from the Whitesburg Bible College in 2006. He was employed with the Prudential Insurance Company as a Financial Representative for twenty-two (22) years.

Evangelism was Johnnie’s passion; spreading God’s word in the highways and byways!

He was preceded in death by grandfather, John Wright; father, Johnnie Wright; grandmother, Leola Sanders; son, Jamaal S. Cook; and mother, Mary F. Nelson.

Minister Cook departed this life on Thursday, August 15, 2024 surrounded by his wife and family.  To forever cherish his precious memories are his  loving and devoted wife of (25) years Betty Cook; daughter Jaquayya Cook (Diamon Alexander, Sr.); bonus children: Glynis (Patrick) Brown, Derrick (Oreece) Mosley, and Bennie Mosley; sister Arlianer (William) Smart – Tampa, FL; brother Claude (Bobbie) Cook – Birmingham, AL; grandchildren: Makaila Cook, Caleb Cook, Diamon Alexander, Jr., Diamon Alexander, III, Jayanee Alexander, Derrica Franklin, and Joshua Brown; great grand-daughter Arya Franklin; mother-in-law Norma McConis; brother-in-law: Alfred (Kathi) Rogers, sisters-in-law: Shirley Rogers, Delbra Kelly, and Dorothy McConis; daughter-in-law Brandy Cook; nieces, nephews, and many cousins near and far; a devoted cousin Hugh (Debbie) Hudson, very supportive nieces Jonecia Rogers and Ashley Rogers, a caring and supportive nephew, Jeremy Cook.

Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m., Saturday, August 31, 2024 at the New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church (2562 Bob Wade Lane, Harvest, AL 35749) with Pastor Ricky Sykes officiating. Interment will be in the Elmwood Cemetery (600 Martin Luther King Jr Drive Birmingham, AL 35211). Minister Cook will lie in repose one hour prior to funeral time.

The Cook family will receive guests from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Friday, August 30, 2024 at the Royal Chapel of Memories.

Public viewing will be held from 1:30 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., Friday, August 30, 2024 and 8:30 a.m. until 9:00 a.m., Saturday, August 31, 2024 at the Royal Funeral Home.
