John Watt Crunk (aka PaPa) 91, a native of Huntsville, Alabama went to walk with Jesus on December 27th of 2014. John attended Abilene Christian College in Texas, also Tennessee College, and trained as a chemical engineer in the Army. John was an 18 year veteran in the Army, Air Force and National Guard. He served World War II and the Korean War. He had many occupations and talents including salesman for Moorman’s Mfg., car salesman, water well driller, and volunteer commander of American Veterans Post 88 in Huntsville where he conducted bingo.
John loved the Lord and was thankful to be blessed in his long full life. John was very giving and loving to all those around him and will leave a large void in all the lives he touched. May he rest in peace and dance with the angels. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Avis Crunk; son, John Crunk Jr. (Johnny) of Ardmore, TN; daughter, Ita Ann CrunkBirdsong of Harvest, AL; stepdaughters, Leticia(Tish) Perry and Tara Marshall; grandsons: Brian and wife Nikita Birdsong, Daniel Birdsong, Zack Marshall, and Matthew Marshall; great-granddaughters, Heaven and Lolita Birdsong as well as a great many friends and loved ones. He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Elizabeth McCrary Crunk; sister, Alice Hyde; and brother, Grady “Pete” Crunk.
Visitation will be Tuesday, December 30th from 1:30pm until 2:30pm at Berryhill Funeral Home followed by a 2:30pm chapel service . Interment will be at Maple Hill Cemetery. A reception will be held at Monte Sano Methodist Church after the funeral services. In lieu of flowers, donations be made to Monte Sano Methodist Church or the Alzheimer’s Association.
