John V. Davis – Obituary

JohnJohn V. Davis, MD died Monday May 27, 2013 as the result of cancer. He is survived by his wife Jean-Marie Davis and his three daughters: Laura Cole, Samantha Josephine and Natalie Ann Davis all of Hartselle as well as his parents-in-law Don and JoAnn Fuqua. Dr. Davis was preceded in death by his parents, D.F. Davis and Billie Jo Barnett, both of McMinnville, Tn. Dr. Davis helped found the Geropsychiatric unit at Hartselle Hospital in 1995 and was the Medical Director until 2006. Dr. Davis grew up on a farm in McMinnville, Tennessee. He served six years active duty in the US Navy, completed his undergraduate degree at Emory University in Atlanta then attended medical school at the College for Physicians and Surgeons in Memphis. His psychiatry residency was at Vanderbilt University Hospital in Nashville. He is a member of the First United Methodist Church of Hartselle.

Visitation will be at Peck Funeral home in Hartselle on Tuesday May 28, 2013 from 6:00PM to 8:00PM. Funeral services will be Wednesday May 29, 2013 at 2:00PM at the Hartselle First United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers Dr. Davis and family ask that you send a generous donation to: The Friends Center, Attn. Mrs. Anita Thomas, North Alabama Regional Hospital, 4218 Hwy 31 South, Decatur, AL 35603-5039. Your donations are tax deductible and provide clothes, outings, eyeglasses and many other basic needs for the patients at NARH and will help the mentally ill patients of our community.

Dr. Davis writes: “I cannot begin to thank all the friends, family, colleagues, neighbors and patients for all the prayers, well wishes, notes, cards, meals and love that have been sent my way over this last year. But please, from the depths of my heart, accept my thanks. I am remarkably blessed to have been given the life I have had. And even more blessed to have experienced it with those who have traveled with me. Now, if you will excuse me, I have a wonderful adventure to start. My love to you all.”
