Funeral service for John Thomas “Tom” Wiggins, age 77, of Decatur, will be Monday, June 3, 2019,  11:30 a.m. at Shelton Funeral Home Chapel with Alan Watkins officiating.  The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. prior to service.  Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Town Creek, AL.

Mr. Wiggins, who died Friday, May 31, 2019, at his residence, was born September 10, 1941, in Decatur, to Carl Edward Wiggins and Mabel Ferguson Wiggins.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mr. Wiggins grew up in Pulaski, TN, and graduated from Giles County High School.  He earned a B.S. degree from East Tennessee State University, where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon.  He joined the U. S. Navy and was transferred to the Marine Corps as a combat corpsman with a tank battalion.   Mr. Wiggins worked as a general contractor, and built many homes in Decatur; he also served as general manager for a historical restoration company outside of Franklin, TN, at Leipers Fork.  He was a member of Grant Street Church of Christ.

He is survived by his wife, Deborah “Debbie” Knouff Wiggins of Decatur; one son, John Stevenson Wiggins (Karey) of Phoenix, AZ; one stepdaughter, Alisha Daniels (Brian) of Huntsville; one brother, Carl Wiggins (Elaine) of Birmingham; and four grandchildren, Savannah, Sienna, Audrey, and Drew.

Pallbearers will be Brian Daniels, Ricky Knouff, Braxton Peters, Brian Peters, Guinn Wiggins, and Steve Wiggins.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial donations be made to Hospice of the Valley, P. O. Box 2745, Decatur, AL 35602, or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
