John T. Muse, 67, passed away March 21, 2026. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Eva Muse. He is survived by his son, Hunter Drake, fiancee, Amy Taylor, brother Robert (Scooter) Muse, Jr. and sister, Alana White (Rowland). Also, nieces Jessica Tompkins (Chris), Meghan Muse, Randi Davis, and Rikki McKelvey (Kyle), two great nephews, and three great nieces.
John helped raise several children as his own: Logan Erwin (Darian), Kennedy Erwin, Mollie Wood, Jake Wood, and Andie Taylor. John is also survived by numerous friends he considered as family.
A 1977 graduate of Central High School, John attended the University of North Alabama earning a BS in Geography (Cartography) with a minor in Photography. Also, he completed the Public Safety Officers School and Law Enforcement Officers Training for TVA. John completed the Smith and Wesson Armor School as a certified gunsmith. After completing training in May, 1986, he served as an EMT for the Florence Fire Department. He was also a certified Hunter Safety Instructor and lifeguard.
After 27 years, John retired as a Lieutenant from the City of Florence Fire Department. Since his retirement, he had more time to spend on the river or in the woods. Anyone who knew him could always depend on him to help when needed. He was an avid outdoorsman and when he cooked, no one went hungry.
There will be a service at Greenview Memorial Gardens on Sunday, March 29, 2026. Visitation will be from 1:00-3:00 PM with a graveside service at 3:00 PM. Officiating will be retired firefighter, Jim Wallace and John’s oldest niece, Jessica Tompkins.
Pallbearers will be Robbie Moomaw, Scooter Muse, Chris Tompkins, Rowland White, Logan Erwin, Jake Wood, Jim Armstrong, and Tim Behel.
Honorary pallbearers will be the City of Florence Firefighters.
John will truly be missed by his family and numerous friends. JOHN, WE ALL THOUGHT YOU WALKED ON WATER!!
