John Sampson “Sam” Kirby – Obituary

John Sampson “Sam” Kirby, 74, of Corinth, MS, passed away on Monday, February 20, 2017 at Magnolia Regional Health Center. He was born in Earle, AR on September 20, 1942 to the late James and Jessie Wilbanks Kirby and graduated from Kossuth High School in 1961. Sam was employed with several area businesses including Wurlitzer and ITT. He was very proud of his military service having served in the US Navy. Sam was a member of the Corinth American Legion Post #6. He loved being outdoors, enjoyed fishing, gardening and especially his little dog “K. C.”. His love for his Lord was evident by his life and his service to South Corinth Baptist Church where he enjoyed singing in the choir and serving the church as a deacon. Sam enjoyed spending time with those he loved and will be forever remembered in the hearts of his family and friends. Visitation is scheduled for 5-9 pm, Wednesday, February 22, 2017 and for 10:30 until service time, Thursday, February 23, 2017 at Magnolia Funeral Home. A celebration of Sam’s life will be held at 11:30 am Thursday, February 23, 2017 at Magnolia Funeral Home Chapel of Memories officiated by Bro. Charles Stephenson, Dr. Leonard Pratt and Bro. Warren Jones. Pallbearers include Shane Huff, Melvin Steed, Ronnie Chappell, David Mullins, Ronnie Morphis and Ricky Morphis. Interment will follow in Corinth National Cemetery. Magnolia Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements. Those left to honor Sam’s memory include his wife of 53 years: Bernice Kirby of Corinth, MS; his daughter: Devona Roaten of Michie, TN; his granddaughter: Keri Roaten; his sister: Patty Sue Crum; a special son: Ronnie Chappell; a special grandson: Shane Huff; special friends: Onetter Morphis and the late Joe Morphis; two nieces, other relatives and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents: James and Jessie Wilbanks Kirby. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Mississippi 855 S. Pearl Orchard Rd.
