John Reese Aldred – Obituary

JohnMr. John Reese Aldred, 84, a native of Yellow Springs, Ohio, but a longtime resident of Florence, Ala., passed away Dec. 20, 2013, at his residence.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Florence. John was a graduate of the Columbia Military Academy in 1948 and a proud veteran of the U.S. Air Force – Strategic Air Command. He was very active with Boy Scouts of America for over 60 years developing and molding the character of young Scouts in troops from Tennessee, Texas and Alabama. He coached little league baseball, football and swimming. He was a graduate of Auburn University in 1956 where he played football and achieved his degree in Horticulture. He was employed as a botanist for Tennessee Valley Authority and later in his career became an independent contractor for residential construction and landscaping.
Visitation will be Monday, Dec. 23, 2013, from noon–1 p.m. at Greenview Funeral Home. The funeral service will begin at 1 p.m. in Greenview Memorial Chapel with Pastor Charles Gattis officiating. Burial will follow in Greenview Memorial Park.
Mr. Aldred was preceded in death by his brother, Bill Aldred; parents, Jacob W.H. and Theresa Kemp Aldred.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Libby Aldred, of Florence; children, Don Aldred (Barbara), of Hoover, Ala., Jamie Moody, of Florence, Ala., Mike Aldred (Linda), of The Woodlands, Texas, Mark Aldred (Lisa), of Calera, Ala.; grandchildren, Jason and Justin Aldred, Amanda and Nick Moody, Adam and Andrea Aldred, Hunter and Ryan Aldred; and three great-grandchildren.
