John Randol Mullins

John Randol Mullins passed away April 10, 2019. John was born in Troy, Alabama on July 29, 1945, and was a long-time resident of Decatur, Alabama. John joined The Armed Forces on May 10, 1968, where he was a rotary wing pilot and instructor. He was awarded a Purple Heart, along with several other awards for his service. After his service, John attended Auburn University. He graduated with a degree in Aerospace Engineering in 1972. He had a 35-year engineering career in Huntsville, Alabama. He also served as a UN Weapons Inspector in 1994.

John was married for 52 years to Barbara Mullins. Their children are Jason Mullins (Carman) and Amber Mullins Willis (John Mark). Their dearly-loved grandchildren are Rand and Molly Willis, and Henley and Sydney Mullins.

John enjoyed travelling the world with Barbara, attending grandchildren’s activities, woodwork and fishing.

In September 2015, John and Barbara moved to Birmingham, Alabama where John became a LVAD patient of the Heart Transplant Intensive Care Unit at UAB hospital. For nearly 3 years, the team of doctors, nurses, and staff gave John extra life with his family.

Visitation will be held Monday, April 15, 2019 from 10 AM – 12 PM at American Village, in the rotunda, located at 3727 Highway 119, Montevallo, Alabama 35115. John will be laid to rest at 1:15 PM at Alabama National Cemetery, located at 3133 Highway 119, Montevallo, Alabama.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your choice of church or charity in John’s memory.
