John Paul White Joins All-Star Lineup For Percy Sledge Benefit

John Paul WhiteTHE SHOALS-Four-time Grammy winner John Paul White has added his name to the list of world-class musicians who will participate in a benefit for Percy Sledge on Tuesday, September 30. In a literal interpretation of one of Sledge’s hit songs, an all-star lineup will show him “Warm and Tender Love” and help raise money to defray the mounting medical expenses related to his battle with liver cancer. The event begins at 7:30  p.m. at the Marriott Shoals Conference Center in Florence.

musical ties to the area. The list includes Eddie Floyd, Pat Upton, Lenny LeBlanc, Gary Baker, Walt Aldridge, Bobby Denton, Travis Wammack, Donnie Fritts, David Hood, Mike Dillon, Kelvin Holly, N.C. Thurman, Jim Seals, Donnie Carpenter and Mitchell Curtis, Harvey Thompson, Charles Rose, Doug Moffet, Steve Herrmann

Concert organizer David Johnson, who produced several of Sledge’s albums, said he is expecting strong community support. “Percy has often donated his time and talent to percy-sledgefundraising events in this area.
“Now it’s time to give back to him.” Sledge will attend the event to show his gratitude but he will not be performing.
Concert sponsors include the Marriott Shoals Hotel and Spa, Big River Broadcasting and Northwest Shoals Community College Foundation. Tickets are $35 and can be purchased at any First Metro Bank or Valley Credit Union location. VIP table sponsorships are available for $750 and can be reserved by calling 256-810-3030.
