John Patrick Wallace, a native of Hartselle, Alabama, passed away peacefully in his sleep on February 23, 2026, after a life defined by service, adventure, and remarkable achievement.
John attended school in Hartselle and later studied at Calhoun College. In 1964, he proudly joined the United States Army and was commissioned as an Aviation Officer. Serving with distinction in Vietnam, Captain Wallace demonstrated extraordinary courage and skill. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and received the Air Medal with 18 Oak Leaf Clusters in recognition of his valor and dedication.
Following his military service, John embarked on a long and successful career as an airline captain. He flew Boeing 737 aircraft for Piedmont Airlines, US Air, and Copa Airlines until his retirement. His passion for aviation was matched only by his love of the outdoors. An avid sportsman, John found great joy in traveling, boating, and fishing with family and friends, creating memories that will be treasured for generations.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Sarah E. Thomason Wallace and Wilbert Edgar Wallace, and his brother, James E. Wallace.
John is survived by his daughter, Susan Wallace Strickland; his grandchildren, Cody Dandy and Taylor Dandy Tyler; his sisters, Hilda Hall of West Columbia, South Carolina, and Frances Greer of Knoxville, Tennessee; his beloved soulmate, Jean Dennis Brown; and many cherished nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at the chapel of Peck Funeral Home. The service will begin at 1:00 p.m., with a graveside service to follow.
