 John Ocie Carter, age 90, of Sylacauga, Alabama, passed away at Regency of Huntsville on April 17, 2021.

He was a 1949 graduate of B.B. Comer High School in Sylacauga. John served in the US Navy during the Korean War, stationed at both San Diego and Treasure Island Naval Station. He was a graduate of the Naval Electronics School. After his discharge from the Navy, he began operating his own television sales and repair business for many years. He later went to work for Kimberly-Clark Corporation in Childersburg, and remained there for 30 years. His parents were Roy Hamilton Carter and Lena Strickland Carter of Sylacauga.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Shelley Fields Carter; by his children, John F. Carter (Lorraine) and Alice C. Ruf (Joseph); as well as his grandchildren, John Carter Jr. and Katie Carter. John was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert Carter and John C. Carter; as well as his sister, Ruth Carter Henson.

A special note of gratitude is extended to Hospice of North Alabama for their care and assistance.

A memorial service will be held in Sylacauga at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation.
