John Nye “Sonny” Hill, of Decatur, passed away at his residence on Nov. 11, 2016, at the age of 85. “Pa” was born July 1, 1931, in Morgan County Alabama to John Raymond and Evie Irene Hill, and was a resident of Morgan County his entire life.
Ridout’s Brown Service Funeral Home will provide Monday evening visitation from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. with the funeral service Tuesday at 11 a.m. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services in the chapel with Brother Justin Roberson officiating.
Sonny Hill operated heavy equipment for over sixty years and was well known for his ability. His love for Bluegrass music and Buck dancing is known by all who knew him and brought great joy to him. Brother Sonny was a member of the Danville Road church of Christ and will be missed by many.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of sixty-four years, Carolyn Coker Hill; two sons, John Hill (Janet) and Timothy Hill; two daughters, Ginnie Crow and Emily Hall (Richard); seven grandchildren, John David, JoMarie, Alan, Erica, Anabeth, Adam, and Alexis; six great-grandchildren, Macy, Deacon, Henderson, Noe’, Taylor, and Adelyn; two sisters, Maxine McCaghren and Eloise Steadman; and one brother, Ralph Hill.
He was preceded in death by brother, Jack Hill; and sisters, Kathleen Knight and Opal Crowson.
Pallbearers will be Richard Hall, Alan Hall, Adam Crow, John David Hill, Tim Ward, Blake White, and Richard Simons.
