A celebration of life service for John Morgan Hester Jr., 65, of Phoenix, Ariz., will be Sunday, Sept. 15, 2019, at 2 p.m. at East Vernon Baptist Church in LaGrange, Ga., with the Rev. Bernie Pasley officiating.

Mr. Hester died Wednesday, Sept. 4, in Phoenix under hospice care. The family wishes to thank the friends, Pam Hester, Al French and Zack Padilla, and hospice caregivers, especially Catherine Sardella, who gave support and comfort.

Raised in Alabama, Mr. Hester was born Oct. 1, 1953, the son of John Morgan Hester Sr. and Ann Stitt Hester. He was a district manager and was employed by Hancock Fabrics for over 30 years. In his younger days, Mr. Hester enjoyed playing trombone in the Decatur (Ala.) High School Band and Auburn University Marching Band. He graduated Auburn University in 1975 with a business degree with major in accounting. John was an avid fisherman, enjoying fishing at his parent’s home on West Point Lake.

Survivors include his son, Jeffrey Martin “Jeff” Hester (Jessica) of Beloit, Wis.; daughter, Samantha Kaye “Sam” Hester of Phoenix; and grandson, Nathan John Hester. Mr. Hester was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Bertha and Mabrey Stitt; paternal grandparents, Minnie Pearl and Hugh Hester; and daughter, Sara Ann Hester of Phoenix.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
