John Milton  Wadsworth IIJohn Milton Wadsworth II, born in Oil City, PA January 29, 1925. Son of Rev. George C. Wadsworth and Elizabeth Taggart Wadsworth. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Mary Rita Vonderschmidt Wadsworth; six children – Mary Kathleen “Kate” (David) Forrest of Franklin, TN, John M. (Audrey) Wadsworth III of Borden, IN, Thomas W. Wadsworth of Middletown, KY, Susan Wadsworth (David) Davis of Knoxville, TN, Robert L. (Sharon) Wadsworth of Phoenix, AZ and Lawrence A. (Whitney) Wadsworth of Prosperity, SC; 15 grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren.
He grew up in New Jersey and Arizona and left Nogales, AZ at age 17, in March, 1942 to serve in the U S Navy. Served on both the USS Fulton (AS-11) and the USS Guam (CB-2) in the Pacific theater and honorably discharged as a Boatswains Mate in Nov 1945.
He joined the Army National Guard and commissioned in 1949 during the Korean War and was sent to Germany with the 452nd Armored Field Artillery. He stayed in the KY Army National Guard on his return and retired as a Major. Concurrently with his National Guard service, he had a career with American Airlines, retiring in 1981.
He and his wife raised their family in Clarksville, IN, working in Louisville, KY. Upon retirement he and his wife moved to Mesa, AZ where they lived for the first thirteen years of retirement, before moving to Spring Hill, TN in 1995.
Funeral Service will be 1:00PM Monday, January 21, 2019 at Spring Hill Memorial Funeral Home, Father Tim Williams officiating. Interment will follow in Spring Hill Memorial Park with full military honors. Memorial donations may be made to National World War II Museum, 945 Magazine St., New Orleans, LA 70130.
