John M. Phillips, age 63 of Henderson John Michael Phillips, age 63, passed away Friday afternoon June 12, 2020 at his home south of Henderson.

Mr. Phillips was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma December 1, 1956 to James Wade Phillips and the late Elizabeth Mendle Phillips. He grew up living in several places since his father was in the Air Force. He was a 1974 graduate of McNairy Central High School in Selmer. He served four years in the United States Navy. He married Debi Hopper September 22, 1995 and they made their home in Henderson. He worked for Proctor and Gamble for 23 years and then for E&T Construction for 7 years. He enjoyed hunting, bee keeping, fishing, gardening, and carpentry. He was a member of Old Friendship Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife Debra Ann ‘Debi’ Hopper Phillips, a son Noah R. Phillips, a daughter Rebecca C. Gowens (Matthew) of Leavenworth, KS, his father James Wade Phillips and wife Ruth Ann, four grandchildren; Loralai Gowens, Olivia Gowens, Casper “Buddy” Gowens, and Gideon “Bear” Gowens, four sisters; Judy Crowe (Bob) of Finger, Yvonne Johnson of Henderson, Anita Hawkins (Wes), of Sacramento, CA and Esther Phillips of Houston, TX.
He is also survived by his father-in-law and mother-in-law Roy and Kathy Hopper of Vero Beach, FL, brother-in-law Christopher Hopper (Tara) of John’s Creek, GA, niece and nephew Haley and Carson.

He was preceded in death by his mother Elizabeth Mendle Hopper, a brother Bob Phillips and a sister Irene Phillips.

Memorial services will be held Tuesday evening June 16th, 5:00 PM at Old Friendship Baptist Church with Bro. Iran Smith officiating.

The family will receive friends at the church from 3:00PM until 5:00 PM Tuesday. Military Honors will be at 5:00 PM.
