Funeral service for John Marvin Barnes, age 83, of Decatur, will be Sunday, June 8, 2014, 2:00 p.m. at Shelton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dr. Ben Hayes officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 7, 2014. Interment will be in Roselawn Cemetery.
Mr. Barnes, who died Thursday, June 5, 2014, at his residence, was born May 19, 1931, in Alabama, to Rufus Lee Barnes and Victoria Gillespie Barnes. He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Rebecca Jane Barnes; and his wife, Arie Octavia Barnes.
He is survived by his wife, Sara Henderson Barnes of Decatur; two sons, John Michael Barnes and Jimmy Lee Barnes, both of Decatur; one daughter, Kay Looney (Wally) of Decatur; one stepson, Jeff Coffey of Fayetteville, TN; one stepdaughter, Sharon Ward (Sam) of Decatur; one sister, Christine Standridge of Decatur; and four grandchildren, Christopher John Looney (April), Emily Rebecca Troup (Frank), Andrew John Barnes, and Riley Scott Barnes.
