John Marshall Westenberger – Obituary

John Marshall Westenberger, 77, of Florence, passed away on Wednesday, March 21, 2018. Mr. Westenberger, a native Tennessean, was the son of the late Reverend Wilford Curtis Westenberger and the late Mildred Estes Westenberger. He is also preceded in death by his brother, Wes Westenberger.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Cornelia Stuckenschneider Westenberger; daughter, Michelle Carrico of Florence; granddaughter, Hope Behm Carrico of Birmingham; sister, Joan Kirkpatrick of Nashville; Jane Rollins (David) of Trinity. He is survived by brother-in-law, Ted Stuckenschneider and his wife, Dana Hodges Stuckenschneider of Birmingham, several nieces, nephews, and many special friends.

John attended Hillsboro High School in Nashville and Birmingham-Southern College, where he was a member of the Sigma Alpha Eplison fraternity. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam era with the combat camera crew based in San Diego. Most of his career was as the CEO of various non-profit organizations. He served as vice chairman of his own professional organization, American Society of Association Executives. He received several state and national awards as well as commendations from two U.S. presidents.

John was overly blessed with creative talents to include writing, photography and music. His voice and love of song was apparent throughout each stage of his life.

A Celebration of Life will be held on April 7, 2018 at 1 p.m. at the First Christian Church in Florence. Visitation will be at noon just prior to the service.
